বাংলাদেশের গণহত্যা অস্বীকারে পাকিস্তানের বিরুদ্ধে টরন্টোর বিক্ষোভ সমাবেশ

সদেরা সুজন সিবিএনএ কানাডা থেকে।। কানাডার স্থানীয় সময় শুক্রবার ৪ ডিসেম্বর সকাল ৯টা থেকে ১১টা পর্যন্ত টরন্টোয় পাকিস্তানের কনস্যুলেটের সামনে প্রবাসী বাংলাদেশিরা শান্তিপূর্ণভাবে নিন্দা ও প্রতিবাদ কর্মসূচি পালন করেছে। ১৯৭১ সনে বর্বর পাকিস্তানিদের অতর্কিত হামলায় ক্ষত-বিক্ষত বাংলাদেশে ত্রিশ লাখ নিরাপরাধ সাধারণ মানুষকে গণহত্যা ও দু’লাখেরও বেশী মাবোনদের সম্ভ্রমহানির চিরসত্যকে সম্প্রতি পাকিস্তান সরকার অস্বীকাররের তীব্র প্রতিবাদে টরন্টোয় বিক্ষোভ সমাবেশ করেছে স্বাধীনতা ও মুক্তিযুদ্ধের মানুষরা। সপ্তাহের ব্যস্ততমদিন শুক্রবারে হঠাৎ করে এমন প্রতিবাদে অসংখ্য প্রবাসীরা উপস্থিত হতে না পারাতে দুঃখ প্রকাশ করেছেন। পাকিস্তানের ১৯৭১ সালের গণহত্যা অস্বীকার করা এবং এখনো যুদ্ধাপরাধীদের পক্ষে সাফাই গাওয়ার ঘটনাকে কেন্দ্র করে তীব্র শীত উপেক্ষা করে প্রায় দু’ঘন্টা এ বিক্ষোভ প্রকাশ করা হয়।
প্রতিবাদ জানানোর পাশাপাশি কনস্যুলেটের কর্মকর্তাদের কাছে স্মারকলিপি প্রদান করা হয়।

Memorandum to the Consul General of Pakistan, Toronto
On November 30th, Pakistan officially denied the involvement of its armed forces in committing genocidal massacres, war crimes and crimes against humanity in 1971, during the Liberation War of Bangladesh. Historical records, however, reveal that – throughout the nine-month long Liberation War – an estimated 3 million people were killed and more than 200,000 Bengali women were raped by the members of the Pakistani army and their local collaborators. Furthermore, nearly 30 million civilians were internally displaced while over 10 million were forced to seek refuge in India to escape from Pakistani atrocities.
Pakistan’s statement, therefore, clearly contradicts the factually established historical narrative of 1971 Liberation War. Genocide is considered as a crime against humanity and so is genocide denial.
During the past months, Pakistan Government has also made repeated outrageous comments in support of the convicted war criminals of 1971, which is a clear interference in the judicial process of Bangladesh.
We, the Bangladeshi Canadians of Toronto, strongly condemn
– Pakistan Government’s outrageous statement denying 1971 genocide and the country’s role in it, and
– their interference in the judicial process of Bangladesh.
Mere condemnation of this audacious statement is not enough. We, therefore, strongly demand that the Government of Pakistan
– admits the genocide and apologizes for its role during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971 without any qualifier,
– withdraws its appalling genocide-denying statement,
– provides clear assurance of not repeating similar comments in future,
– promises to cease their shameless attempts to interference with Bangladesh’s internal affairs, including the justice system, and
– cooperates with the Government of Bangladesh to carry out the trials of war criminals of 1971, including every culpable Pakistani military officer.
